Virtus for Volunteers

VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children™ Program

One of the key policies administered by the Safeguarding the Children Committee is to ensure that all staff and volunteers take the mandatory Archdiocesan VIRTUS® Protecting God’s Children Adult Awareness Session. VIRTUS® is a three-hour training that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and myths about child sexual abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults can take five important steps to keep children safe. The parent session also stresses monitoring of computers, cell phones and other technology that perpetrators use to gain access to children and young people.

The 3-hour session is offered periodically in our area.  If you are thinking about volunteering at the school or parish, be aware that most roles will require that you take the VIRTUS® training prior to beginning the volunteer service.  Be sure to contact the Parish Office for information about whether certification will be needed, and if so, how to become VIRTUS® certified prior to beginning your volunteer assignment.
