Safeguarding the Children Highlights at Visitation Parish

At Visitation Parish, the following represents the highlights for the work of this Committee, and the Parish as a whole.

  • Offer VIRTUS child safety training to all adults (3-hour session)
  • Offer Teaching Touching Safety classes to all students in Visitation School, Religious Education and Confirmation programs
  • Fingerprint & background checks for teachers, aides, & volunteers
  • Established an active Safeguard the Children Parish Committee with meetings
  • Lockdown of Church & School yard during School class hours
  • Relocating of the in/out gates to the school yard & re-stripe blacktop to safely direct student drop-off/pickup
  • Add significantly more nighttime lighting of parking lot
  • Installation of School and play yard video surveillance system
  • Allow School office and Day Care office the ability to control entrance to the grounds via video monitored electronic gates
  • Install locks on the Church Confessionals
  • Open up the secluded north garden area of the Church by installing a shrine to Mary, making an entrance through the brick wall & placing lighting
  • Informational pamphlets in Church covering family/child protection & safety.
  • Inclusion of “Did You know” safety articles in weekly Church bulletins as space permits
  • Moved morning student assembly to Jr. High yard away from traffic & outside observation
  • Advised teachers to keep classroom doors open during school hours
  • Reworked School communication system yard amplified sound system
  • Perform yearly plant walk through looking for areas of concern
  • Lock school yard entrance gates after events in evening – opening in morning at start of School
  • Implementation of April Child Abuse Prevention Month programs by Archdiocese
