“Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” John 12:26

Youth Altar Servers are an integral part of our Masses. It is one of the most important ministries our young people can take on during the liturgy.

Altar Servers help prepare the Altar prior to the service and lead the opening and closing processions down the center aisle with the cross and candles, followed by the Eucharistic Ministers, Lectors and the Presider. They hold the book or prayers for the Presider to read during the Mass. They may also carry and assist with the use of the incense during the celebration.

Altar Servers are most visible as they help the Presider during the preparation of the gifts. They help to receive the gifts from the congregation and bring them to the Altar. They also bring any other books and vessels which are needed for the Consecration. They assist the Presider in the ritual cleansing of his hands prior to Consecration. They are responsible for bringing all the Communion vessels to the Altar prior to Communion for the Eucharistic Minister’s use in distributing Communion.

This ministry of service brings our young people closer to God. They are indeed prayer leaders by their example of reverence and attentiveness during the Mass.

Welcome to our newest Altar Servers.  They will begin serving this summer.  Congratulations!

Boys and girls in the 5th grade and older who have been baptized and have received their first Holy Communion are eligible for this ministry. Servers may continue to serve throughout high school. Training is required before service. Contact Sue Mapes to learn more or fill out the contact form below and we’ll get in touch with you.
