We congratulate you on the birth of your child. We look forward to helping you in your role as parent and leading your child to new life in Jesus Christ.
Through the sacraments of initiation, Baptism, (Reconciliation), the Eucharist and Confirmation, the follower of Jesus journeys to full membership in the Catholic community.
Baptism is the beginning of this life. The waters of baptism symbolize life and death, washing and cleansing, and the mystery of new life out of death. At the baptism of a child, or any person, we celebrate and reflect on God’s unconditional love and welcome him or her into our faith.
Baptisms at Visitation
At Visitation, we offer communal baptisms on the fourth Saturday of the month at 1:00 PM in the Church. The requirements and registration process are described below.
- At least one parent must be Catholic.
- At least one Godparent must be a practicing Catholic. A non-Catholic Christian is allowed to be the other Godparents. The Godparents do not need to be married to one another, but if married, they should be married in the Catholic Church. Godparents must be at least 16 years old, have received the Sacrament of Confirmation, practice their faith, and be willing to accept the responsibility of supporting their Godchild in faith. If a Godparent is not able to be present for the ceremony, a proxy is permissible.
- Both the parents and the Godparents must attend baptism preparation class, which is held on the third Saturday of each month at 9:30 in the Parish Center. You or the Godparents may attend a class at another Catholic parish. If you choose this option, you will need to provide a certificate of completion from that parish.
We ask for a fee of $50 for the Baptism Class. Visitation does not charge a fee for the Baptism. If one wishes to make a donation at the time of Baptism, it would be very much appreciated.
