Good Friday/Tenebrae

On good Friday morning at 9:00, Visitation Church will be presenting a Tenebrae prayer service.

Tenebrae, a Latin word meaning “darkness”, is a deeply prayerful reflection on the passion and death of Christ, using psalms and chants, accompanied by cello and piano.

It begins in a darkened church, lit only by seven candles. As psalms are sung, lamenting the suffering of the servant of God, the candles are gradually extinguished.

At the end of the service – Christ’s death – a thunderous noise echoes through the darkened church, a reminder of the earthquake that accompanied the crucifixion.

Please consider beginning your observance of good Friday at this solemn reflection on Christ’s death.
