Love your Neighbor. Love All Your Neighbors.

In today’s gospel, we again hear Jesus command us to love everyone. The good and the bad. The friend and the stranger. Everyone is God’s child. All deserve our care.

Today we renew the Archbishop’s Together in Mission Financial Campaign, which gathers money to assist the poorest parishes and schools in the archdiocese. Even though we may not know these parishes directly and their parishioners may be strangers to us, they are our brothers and sisters in need of our help. Without us, their schools close. Without us, their churches will be shuttered. I worked in South Central LA at St. Columbkille and Nativity Churches, and I can’t express in words how essential Together in Mission was for those communities. It saved us.

Every parish – including the poor ones – are all expected to give. Our goal is $39,600, which is 10% of our annual income. I have always found you to be so generous in this endeavor. We have always met our goal; already some of you have pledged $9,280 on line! That is fantastic! Thank you. I ask all of us to prayerfully consider what you and your family might be able to contribute to this worthy effort. I thank you I advance for your thoughtfulness.
